[Videos] Ukraine: Silent War, a forgotten conflict at Europe’s doors
A silent war has been taking place at Europe’s doors since 2014. In Ukraine, and more specifically in the Donbass in the east of the country, conflict has made the civilian population extremely vulnerable.
The whole region bears the scars of this conflict that is given little public attention. Access to healthcare has become very difficult in many cases.
The civilian population is particularly exposed to the conflict. Many buildings are regularly hit by bombs in the city of Avdiivka.
Populations suffering in silence
Near the front line, thousands of civilian people live with the constant fear of bombings and bullets.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 3.2 millions civilian people are directly affected by the situation in eastern Ukraine.
Every day, more than 10,000 people cross the front line
Having lived in peace for many years, the people of this region have found themselves taken hostage by the appearance of this front line, which often forces them to live their lives between two separate areas and to wait long hours in extremely hot or cold conditions to cross this new border.
The result is scenes of exile that have been forgotten in Europe for many years.
Première Urgence Internationale’s action
A photographic exhibition: Silent War, a forgotten conflict at Europe’s doors was dedicated in France and soon in Ukraine with the photographs of Sadak Souici for Première Urgence Internationale.
