Humanitarian context
The security situation in Burkina Faso has deteriorated rapidly since 2018, with a very strong movement of many armed opposition groups and the establishment of a state of emergency in several regions of the country until the coup d’état at the end of January 2022. The humanitarian situation in Burkina Faso has continued to be marked by insecurity, including the increased use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
A total of 1,902,150 internally1 displaced persons were reported as at 30 April 2022 in Burkina Faso. Out of a population of 21,005,000, the country has approximately 3,500,000 people in need, including 2,400,000 people with health2 needs.

Description of the mission
Première Urgence Internationale has been operating in Mali since 2013, in Niger since 2018 and opened the mission in Burkina Faso in July 2020 through activities to maintain the continuum of care for populations affected by the crisis in the Eastern region (Fada and Gayeri district). Première Urgence Internationale‘s intervention in the East was organized around two pillars: support for the resilience of the care system and emergency response through the deployment of mobile clinics.
Since June 2021, Première Urgence Internationale has also been deployed to Sebba in the DS of Sebba (Yagha Province, Sahel region) to respond to the emergency following the attack on the town of Solhan which killed 130 people and displaced more than 16,000.
Premiere Urgence Internationale in action
Première Urgence Internationale Implements several projects in the Eastern Region (Fada and Gayeri) and the Sahel Region (Sebba) of Burkina Faso. These projects are part of an integrated approach to the areas of intervention of the NGO. This approach is defined around the need and vulnerability of populations and focuses on simultaneously addressing all the causes of these vulnerabilities. This type of approach recognizes the complexity, diversity and interconnectedness of issues.
Première Urgence Internationale will support the provision of primary and secondary health care in supported health centers while rehabilitating water points and raising awareness among the local population, including through culinary workshops, to combat malnutrition. Première Urgence Internationale It also sets up a system to strengthen local skills through training for new health workers on the priority themes identified or for village midwives who work directly in the communities.
Since 2022, Première Urgence Internationale has strengthened its emergency response in the Eastern Region by implementing a food assistance project through the distribution of coupons or cash to the most vulnerable populations.
