Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) : Saving the lives of pregnant women and young children

“In addition to material and financial support, this project allows us to treat patients (pregnant women and children) free of charge: examinations, caesarean sections, hospitalizations, transfusions, etc. Thanks to the daily help of the NGO teams, I was able to learn how to consult the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) forms. Now, I know that when a child is vomiting, I should prescribe such and such a molecule, etc. I am happy and I hope that I will be able to do so. I am happy and I hope that the project will continue because the departure of Première Urgence Internationale would lead to chaos.
This seven-month project supported health centers in the Mutena and Kanzala health zones (Kamonia territory) in multiple ways:
- Curative consultations for children under 5, pregnant and lactating women, pediatric emergencies, obstetric emergencies, survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, severe child malnutrition
- Prevention and health promotion activities (vaccinations and prenatal consultations)
- Births assisted by qualified personnel
- Capacity building
The project is financed by the Humanitarian Fund in DRC
