Located in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the province of Ituri is facing a complex situation, with inter-community conflicts and the presence of numerous armed groups. This situation has led to an acute humanitarian crisis. Faced with this violence, women and children are particularly vulnerable in a region where access to basic needs such as water, healthcare, and food remains difficult.

Despite this context marked by violence and displacement, several families in the Irumu territory, in Ituri province, are regaining hope thanks to the “Multisectoral Emergency Response to the Crisis” project, jointly led by Première Urgence Internationale and Solidarités International and supported by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, through the French Initiative for Food Security and Nutrition (FIFSAN).
Our project has two objectives:
To achieve this, the intervention is based on a multisectoral approach combining health, nutrition, food security, and livelihood recovery for the benefit of vulnerable populations.
Première Urgence Internationale supports local health facilities to ensure the provision of free, quality primary healthcare and the treatment of severe acute malnutrition in children under five and pregnant and lactating women, while Solidarités International supports vulnerable households through cash distributions, seeds and agricultural tools, agricultural training activities, and support for the rebuilding of livelihoods.
Nehema, a farmer and mother of seven, is one of the faces of this resilience in Luga 2. In 2023, she was forced to flee the fighting. When she returned, the land was still there, but she had nothing left: no tools, no seeds, no resources to resume her farming activities.
In September 2025, her youngest son, suffering from severe acute malnutrition, received free treatment at the Makabo health center, supported by Première Urgence Internationale as part of this project. It was on this occasion that Nehema was registered as a beneficiary of Solidarités International. She received a complete kit of agricultural inputs (seeds, hoes, shovel, hoe, rake) and financial assistance to restart her activities. At the same time, her child received treatment for severe acute malnutrition based on PlumpyNut and close medical monitoring.
“My child is now receiving quality treatment and care. I was able to receive seeds, agricultural tools, and financial aid. I am back in my field and can once again feed my children with dignity. I sincerely thank Première Urgence Internationale, Solidarités International, and FIFSAN for their help. I hope that other families in my community will be able to benefit from it, ”

By joining forces to meet the most urgent needs while strengthening the resilience of local communities. Première Urgence Internationale and Solidarités International, two NGOs that have been working in the DRC for more than 20 years, demonstrate the importance of integrated humanitarian action that is both responsive and sustainable in a region where people continue to face insecurity, displacement, and precariousness.
