Les conflits constants ont provoqué l’effondrement économique du pays et la dégradation continue des services publics, en particulier du système de santé. Depuis toujours, le choléra est endémique au Yémen. Mais une épidémie particulièrement grave avait frappé le pays en octobre 2016, suivie d’une seconde vague, encore plus dévastatrice, en avril 2017. Plus récemment, en mars 2019, une résurgence de suspicions de choléra a été constatée, ce qui pourrait s’apparenter à la troisième vague de l’épidémie.
